DESCRIPTION:Advocates for Children also known as CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) is a non-profit agency that serves Dependent and Neglected children in the 18th Judicial District. CASAs are court appointed volunteers who donate their time to advocate for children in the Dependent and Neglect courtroom. After extensive training\, CASA volunteers are appointed by the courts to work with other professionals on the case to determine the best interest of the child. Our volunteers spend time with the children weekly\, talk with individuals such as parents\, foster parents\, and teachers involved in the child's life\; and serve as a consistent and caring adult during this chaotic time CASAs must be 21 years or older\, and willing to commit 10 hours of their time each month for the duration of a case (12-18 months). Volunteers must also attend 30 hours of training in order to be sworn in by the court to serve as a CASA.
